June 26, 2010

Sudden I desire to start hand note about Umrah. Many friends of mine and my family had carried out for Umrah pilgrim. And one of my goal on 2010 also for the same thing going for Umrah!! (insya allah).

Before we do Umrah much better if we know in general (at least) the history about Umrah. Cited from Wikipedia, Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca performed by Muslims that can be undertaken at anytime of the year. Or in technical term means to perform Tawaf of Kaabah and Sa’i between Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, after assuming Ihram, either from a Miqat or a place in Hill. It is sometimes called as minor pilgrimage and the Hajj called as major pilgrimage and which is compulsory for every able-bodied Muslims who can afford it. The Umrah is not compulsory but highly recommended.

Talking about Umrah, must be closely related with two holiest city for Moslems Mecca and Medinah. We’ll share a little bit story about this city and what kind of exciting places they have it.

is the holiest meeting site in Islam. Geocentre place on the earth which is Ka’aba located. Site of Moslem swarm yearly perform Hajj and Umrah. One article stated that Mecca is the most powerful place on earth, why because all moslem come gather and together for pray and drain its power to one channel (Kaa’ba).
The history of Mecca is goes back to history of prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) built of Ka’aba assisted by his eldest son prophet Ismael (pbuh). Over time, Kaa’ba had become a place worship for the deities of Arabian ‘s pagan tribes (Myth) who was domain power by tribe Hubal. In the 5th of Century, the Quraysh took control of Mecca and became skilled merchants and traders.

Rasulullah Muhammad (pbuh) was born in Mecca in 570 from minor fraction, the Hashemite,of the ruling Quraysh tribe. Received divine revelations from God through Angel Gabriel (Jibril) and began to preach his form of Abrahamic monotheism against Meccan paganism.

Masjid Al Haram. The largest mosque in the world and surround Kaa’ba the place which Muslims worldwide turn towards while offering daily prayers also known as a Grand Mosque.

Umrah activity
Before we start for Umrah, we have to do niah Umrah and wearing for Ihram. Ihram is a simply an item of clothing to be worn during pilgrimage. Men’s garment often consist of two white unhemmed sheets (usually towelling material) and are universal in appearance. Ihram must be worn before enter to Mecca. Some point of place called as Miqat will be a start point for people before perform the pilgrimage. Before or at miqat people do bath, trim their nails and hair, make wudhu (cleansing ritual), and pronounce a formal intention of Hajj/ Umrah. While they are in the state, they are not allowed to hunt or kill any living things, participate in sexual intercouse, cut hair or nail, or wear make up and perfume.

– Perform a tawaf, which activity consist of circling of Kaaba seven times in a counter clockwise direction. Men are encouraged to do this three times at a hurried pace, followed by four times, more closely at a leisurely pace.
– Perform a sa’i, which means rapidly walking seven times back and forth between the hills of Sofa and Marwah. This is a reenactment of Hajar frantic search of water for her baby Ismael. And while baby Ismael cried then hit foot to the ground miraculously water sprang forth. The source of water is today called as a Zamzam water.
– Perform a halq or taqsir, meaning to cutting the hair

These rituals complete the Umrah and the pilgrim can choose to go out of Ihram.
